Guo Wenqing Meets Tsinghua University Party Committee Deputy Secretary Shi Zongkai

  In the morning of May 9th, China Minmetals Corporation General Manager & Party Group Deputy Secretary and MCC Chairman & Party Committee Secretary Guo Wenqing met a delegation led by Tsinghua University Party Committee Deputy Secretary Shi Zongkai. Both sides developed deep talks and reached a consensus on further reinforcing cooperation on schools and enterprises in broader fields including talent cultivation, scientific and technological innovation and production, learning and research.

  Guo Wenqing welcomed the delegation of Shi Zongkai to MCC and briefly introduced the development history and related situations of the strategic recombination of China Minmetals and MCC. He pointed out that the new China Minmetals assumed the obligation of the indemnitor of national metallic ore resource safety after the strategic recombination of the two Fortune 500 enterprises. MCC has applied itself to being the ‘national team of metallurgical construction, the main force of capital construction and the pacesetter of emerging industries, insisting on taking the road of high-tech construction in the long term’. At present, the new China Minmetals has an asset scale of RMB 1.6 trillion, total assets of RMB 813.9 billion and financial business management assets of RMB 814.2 billion. The new China Minmetals has 240,000 staff on active duty, of which there are more than 60,000 engineering technicians. Its scientific and technological innovation level ranks 4th among central enterprises, and it possesses 32 national-level scientific and technological innovation platforms and national key laboratories. It has unique global all-round industrial chain advantages and more than 200 wholly-owned or holding enterprises in over 60 nations and regions overseas. As one of the first central enterprises to practice the ‘going out’ strategy, and aside from setting foot in mineral resources investment and metallurgical engineering projects, it has also succeeded in entering such fields as overseas real estate development, highway transport, urban infrastructure, theme park construction and new energy construction, and made positive contributions to accelerating the outward economic cooperation of our country and driving the industrial development of countries along ‘the Belt and Road’ route.

  Guo Wenqing said that the new China Minmetals and MCC are willing to further enhance communication and contact with Tsinghua University, commonly explore and establish a pilot base for postgraduate social practices and overseas projects, carry out deep and multi-dimensional strategic cooperation, achieve mutual benefits, win-win results and joint development, and make further contributions to the strategic implementation of ‘the Belt and Road’ through practical actions.

  Shi Zongkai pointed out that now General Secretary Xi Jinping has advocated and promoted the reform of the global governance system, jointly constructed the community of human destiny and proposed the great concept of building the ‘Silk Road Economic Belt’ and ‘21st Century Maritime Silk Road’. Tsinghua University will carefully implement the demands proposed by General Secretary Xi Jinping, go out in all dimensions on the basis of China, help students to attain a global vision and actively participate in the overseas construction of China's enterprises. He hopes to further enhance cooperation with the new China Minmetals and MCC, continuously promote their cooperation level, expand their cooperation fields, carry out multi-dimensional strategic cooperation in talent cultivation, scientific and technological innovation and production, learning and research, and jointly make contributions towards turning China from a power into a great power.

  After the meeting, Guo Wenqing and Shi Zongkai jointly witnessed the signing of the Protocol for Commonly Building a Pilot Base for Postgraduate Social Practices and Overseas Projects. According to the agreement, as a practice base, MCC will provide concrete practice projects and posts for Tsinghua University postgraduates; Tsinghua University will select its postgraduates to attend practices for practice projects or posts.

  The meeting was attended by Tsinghua University personnel Bai Benfeng, Qian Ting, Liu Xinxin and Zhao Pu, and MCC personnel Zhang Zhaoxiang, Lin Jinzhen, Yan Aizhong, Zou Weimin, Zeng Gang, Xu Yongjie, Guo Wencai, Yin Xin and others.
